Healthy Oils Of The Kitchen

Hello Everyone!mami kereken

Today I will take a different approach to cooking. Well, not actually cooking, but telling you about all the wonderful oils that you could be using while creating delicious dishes. These oils not only add unique flavor to your recipes, but can also assist you in developing a healthier lifestyle without any major changes to your kitchen habit.

The one thing everyone knows is that olive oil is good for you in so many ways; however there are many more oils that are full of healthy goodness. They are easy to find in your grocery store, so you don’t need to make a special trip to your health food store. Lose weight, lower cholesterol, prevent heart disease, boost your immunity, reduce the risk of cancer, improve your memory and so much more.

Let’s start your tour of the world of healthy oils.

Let’s start with my favorite, Grape Seed Oil

Grape seed Oil has many health benefits, including protecting brain function that assists with the prevention of dementia and Alzheimer’s according to a study by researchers from the University of Alabama. It is full of resveratrol, which is a brain-protecting substance also found in red wine, also omega-6, omega-3 and omega-9 fatty acids which assists your brain by reducing inflammation and protects against aging.

The University of Maryland Medical Center claims that omega-6 fatty acids could be beneficial to prevent or treat many serious health conditions, including: diabetic neuropathy, rheumatoid arthritis, allergies, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, breast cancer, eczema, high blood pressure, menopausal symptoms, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis, varicose veins and premenstrual syndrome.

Grape Seed Oil’s antioxidant benefits are also well known. It is high in Vitamins E, C and beta carotene. Eating antioxidant rich foods in many cases prevents certain types of cancers and heart disease. Grape Seed Oil is also rich in polyunsaturated fat that can improve healthy cholesterol levels. Therefore also helps with the development of diabetes.

Grape Seed Oil can withstand very high cooking temperatures, therefore better to use then regular vegetable oils. It also has a light, neutral flavor, therefore it doesn’t mask the flavor of your dish as a strong tasting olive oil would. It is a wonderful base for salad dressing.

Cosmetic Tip

To prevent or treat wrinkles, acne and damaged capillaries, follow your cleansing regiment with grape seed oil instead of your regular moisturizer. It will do wonders for your skin.

Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is developed from the fleshy part of the avocado fruit by use of an oil press. You may use avocado oil for cooking and for cosmetic purposes as well. Similar to Grape Seed oil, it also has a high smoking point. It is suitable for high temperature grilling and frying. You may also use it as a base for salad dressing, as its nutty flavor will complement almost any type of salad greens.

Avocado oil is very rich in monounsaturated oleic acid that helps to control cholesterol. In other words, it helps to lower bad (LDL) cholesterol and helps to raise good (HDL) cholesterol, therefore prevents cardiovascular disease.

The Alpha Linolenic Acid, which is the Omega-3 Fatty Acid in Avocados, helps to suppress tumor growth in breast and colon cancers. Its Vitamin E content also helps with prevention of skin and prostate cancers. Its Vitamin A and E also has wonderful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits for the skin. Both the internal and topical use of Avocado oil can reduce age spots, wrinkles and fine lines.

2 tbsp. of Avocado Oil taken daily can dramatically (17%) reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) and raise good cholesterol (HDL) (11%) in only a week.

Safflower Oil

This wonderful cooking oil can help you dramatically reduce and balance your blood sugar in just 16 weeks. According to researchers at the Ohio State University it was given to post menopausal women with type 2 diabetes each day. They were also asked to not to change their diet or exercise routines. The results were dramatic. They also lost 4 lb around their waist and gained 3 lb muscle. Radically reduced their body mass index (BMI) as well.

Prevents heart disease.

Macadamia Nut Oil

Want fast weight loss? Well, according to researchers and Jonny Bowder, the author of The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth, it can boost metabolism by 10%. also claims: “It also reduces cellular inflammation, which is key to weight loss, immunity and heart health”

Macadamia Nut Oil is also a cooking oil with a light, buttery flavour. It is an oil derived from the nut of the Australian Macadamia tree. Very rich in Monounsaturated fatty acids, helps to reduce bad (LDL) cholesterol and increase good (HDL) cholesterol. Use instead of your vegetable cooking oil.

It helps to reduce hunger, therefore aids with weight loss; reduces the risk of diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Sesame Oil

Some new studies claim that this healthy oil can lower blood pressure dramatically and also effects the sodium levels in the blood and acts as a diuretic. According to the Journal of Medicinal Foods, this wonderful tasting oil also drastically reduces blood sugar levels.

Use instead of cooking oil in your favorite oriental dishes or toss your green salad with Sesame Oil instead of Olive Oil. You may use Olive oil or any other oils for your dressing, but switch it up sometimes and try Sesame oil instead.

Many people are extremely allergic to sesame seeds, therefore sesame oil as well. Please make sure that you are not one of them.

Olive Oil

Most of know that olive oil is high in monounsaturated fat that prevents cardiovascular diseases, lowers bad cholesterol and raises good cholesterol. It is also anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, helps to prevent certain types of cancer, such as breast cancer and lowers blood pressure. It is also wonderful for gall bladder and to cleanse the liver.

Olive oil taken topically and internally provides healthy nails, shiny hair and supple skin.

Chipotle Oil

Chipotle oil is actually olive oil infused with Chipotle Peppers. Chipotle peppers are smoked jalapeño peppers. It is wonderful in Chili Con Carne, finish pastas or on your salad.

Basil Oil

I should clear up that I am not talking about Basil Essential Oil, but Basil Cooking Oil, which is olive oil infused with basil, the herb.

Basil is a wonderful, and tasty, aromatic source of Vitamin A, C, Calcium, Potassium and Vitamin K. Basil is also anti-bacterial properties . Basil is also helpful in reducing diarrhea or similar digestive problems.

Walnut Oil

Walnut oil has a very rich and nutty flavor that is wonderful when used cold, because when you heat this lovely oil it has a tendency of becoming bitter.

It is also great as a salad dressing, flavor fish, steak, poultry, pastas and for certain desserts.

I hope you enjoy our trip into the “land” of oil.
